The lost Road Show through a scrap book jungle (Graphic Studies)
A selection of drawings which dovetails with the beginning of a Gallery wall drawing period. After completing an artist in residency at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery in 2002, the artist increased his productivity and ambition to work on a much larger scale. Drawing starts to take precedent in the studio and the need for more imagery accelerates. These drawings reflect a slightly more obsessive quality and attempts to pull various threads of work together. Defunct or abject modernist abstract forms combine with 'blobby' figures and 'liquified' text, as semi-real faces and bodies inhabit the same condensed space. Often the drawings are done with the intention of being translated into 'visual' narrative story-boards for walls. An unexplained journey where the road veers in different directions all at the same time, even though every sign post reads HOME. The road to nowhere can be so common.
