Headin' South of the Borderlands (Southland Drawings)
A selection of drawings completed during the William Hodges Fellowship in 2005. These studies elaborate on similar themes and pictorial explorations from the previous year. Borrowing imagery extensively from older sketch books over the past 10 years, a seemingly 'unruly' set of pictographs begin to form on each page. The artist is in the process of collaborating with his own work in all it's various modes, in an attempt to invent a hybrid visual language. It's as if the 1950's artist chimp 'Congo' of Desmond Morris fame, really did learn to draw 'properly'. The skewed 'Library of Somewhere Nowhere'. A pattern-maker creating illogical sense.
