The Memory Motel is not open today (Encyclopedia Drawings)
A selection of drawings covering the period 2008-09. On a chance discovery at a roadside White Elephant sale in Taumarunui in early 2008, the artist purchased a set of ‘Golden Book’ encyclopedias. Published in the early 1960's and edited and largely written by Bertha Morris Parker. These volumes contained an incredibly rich resource of imagery, both through illustrations and photograps. The artist drew and read constantly from these resources over the next few years. Aspects of this research culminated in his vast composite 'The Periodic Table' (2009) and also lead onto the publication of a book of his drawings, 'Encyclo-Dimensional' (2014). These artworks created a platform to present a parallel world of knowledge....looking at the known history of the universe from a skewed angle. Its as if the protagonist of H.G Wells book “The Time Machine”, flittered about randomly, turning backwards and forward, whilst making short-hand notes on everything as being contemporaneous. An alternative dimension within the Memory Brain.
