Primeval Disney on Cornflakes (Bio-Morphic Abstraction)
A selection of drawings completed during 2010-12. The artist decided to concentrate on single drawings made on one side of the paper only. Moving outside the confines of a book but within the same format (A4) allowed a greater freedom and the ability to see individual works next to each other without the imposed tyranny of book binding. Revisiting early approaches to anthropomorphism within drawing but with heavily modeled figures allowing for more volume and solidity. This gave the work a renewed expressiveness and an even more animated quality. Rather than designs, the drawings appear to come to life and almost start breathing. In October 2010 the artist used many of these studies for a project at the Christchurch Art Gallery on a the wall work mural titled 'The Children's Charter'. Pulpy human-animals growing and strutting about in some primeval cartoon swamp. The ancient ancestors of Bugs Bunny and Caspar the Ghost re-evolved.
